The Consortium of National Law Universities will open the CLAT 2026 counselling two days after the declaration of the results. The CLAT 2026 result will be declared tentatively one week after the conclusion of the exam. There will be separate CLAT 2026 counselling for the UG and PG programmes. The CLAT invite list 2026 comprises the names of candidates called for CLAT counselling. As has been the trend, the Consortium of NLUs invites approximately five times more candidates than the total seats available for admissions through CLAT 2026. Candidates whose names are included in the CLAT 2026 counselling list will be eligible to participate in the further admission process. Approximately 4092 5-year LLB seats and 1,599 LLM seats are available through the CLAT exam.

Statistically, around 18,000-20,000 will be invited to the CLAT 2026 invite list. Last year, approximately 70,000 candidates appeared for the CLAT 2025 UG exam. However, around 58,504 candidates appeared for the CLAT 2024 UG exam. This means that roughly one-third or one out of three candidates will be selected in the CLAT 2026 invite list. How is CLAT 2026 Invite List Prepared?

The Consortium of NLUs prepares the CLAT counselling invite list for 2026 immediately after the announcement of results. As stated before, the consortium calls approximately five times more candidates than the total number of seats available for admissions. Talking about seats available for admissions, 4092 5-year LLB seats and 1,599 LLM seats are available through CLAT 2026. Going by this number, approximately 20,000 candidates will be invited for UG admissions, while around 8,000 candidates will be included in the CLAT PG invite list.

The method to prepare the CLAT 2026 counselling invite list PDF is simple. The consortium of NLUs first prepares a category-wise merit list for all the candidates. Then, students are grouped according to different categories. Candidates from different categories are called for CLAT counselling according to the weightage set by the consortium. The CNLU uses the scores of the candidates to shortlist them for the CLAT 2026 counselling invite list PDF.

What after the CLAT 2026 Counselling Invite List?

Candidates whose names appear on the CLAT counselling invite list 2026 are eligible to participate in the counselling process. The CLAT 2026 counselling starts after the release of the CLAT invite list. Candidates are required to complete their counselling registration. The counselling registration of CLAT 2026 is the first step in the admission process. Candidates shall first log in to their account and validate the CLAT invite list.

Next, candidates must make the counselling fee payment of a counselling fee of Rs. 30000 for general, and Rs. 20,000 for ST/ SC/ OBC/ BC/ EWS/ PWD candidates. The counselling fee has to be paid only through online mode of payment. Along with the payment, candidates will also be required to enter their bank details, refund details etc. Candidates will be given a payment receipt upon successful payment. With this, the CLAT 2026 counselling registration will be completed.

CLAT Seat Allotment 2026

The CLAT seat allotment process will be carried out in five rounds. The CLAT 2026 seat allotment will be conducted in completely online mode. Candidates will be allotted seats based on their NLU preferences and the ranks secured by candidates in the CLAT exam. Candidates will be able to exercise the options of Freeze, Float and Exit during the CLAT seat allotment 2026. The Freeze option can be exercised in case candidates are advised by the seat allotted to them. Candidates will also be required to pay the confirmation fee and report to the college in case they want to get admission in the allotted NLU.

The CLAT merit list 2026 will be released before each round of counselling. The CLAT 2026 merit list comprises the names of shortlisted candidates for admission.
